Unemployment Week 1: Resume Update & Filing For Unemployment

In 2009, I got laid off from my job at Advantage Business Media due to the economy. In 2014, it’s happened to me again. I’m officially unemployed. Again.

The first step of moving forward once again (aside from getting comfortable in my pajamas) was to update my résumé. I did just that, put that information on LinkedIn and uploaded new résumés to the job boards I’m on.

Jobs 4 JerseySpeaking of job boards, I had to sign up for Jobs4Jersey when filing for unemployment. What a hassle it was. Uploading my résumé to this site was such a pain. When putting in my job title, it asked to select a generic title. None of them truly fit what I did, of course. I guess I’m a round peg in a square hole. Once I figured it out, it seemed that you can put in your own description, so I just did that.

It took 2 years after the first layoff, so let’s take the ride that hopefully won’t last as long! I’ll be blogging about my experiences as an unemployed person, so stay tuned!

Oh, and I was on hold for an hour and half while filing for unemployment and the call got dropped suddenly. What an auspicious start to this process.
