Great Choice, No Misteak About It

Char SteakhouseLast weekend, I went to a birthday dinner with Beth’s family to Char Steakhouse in Raritan. This is a high-end restaurant (also with a location in Red Bank) that is all about the steak and the right wines and beers to complement said steaks.

And I am not a fan of steaks.

In fact, the only time I eat steak is if I’m at a wedding, Beth wants to get the chicken and steak is the only other option that will fill me up. But I digress.

I saw enough menu items on here that I would have a good meal. I started off with a cocktail and some escargot, which grossed the entire table out besides me. I first had escargot in Paris and enjoyed it, so I ordered it and was not disappointed.

On the side, we all shared grilled asparagus, creamed spinach, mac n’ cheese (that I did not eat) and potato gratin. All of it was delicious, especially since the chicken came with a side of roasted garlic that looked like a whole bulb of it. It was awesome.

Anybody who knows me knows that I’m a garlic fiend.

And to cap it all off, two desserts were shared: apple cobbler and brownie, both ala mode. Desserts are desserts, so of course they tasted good. The only flaws about all of this quality food were having to wait about 10 minutes for a table even with a reservation and the high bill.

But I didn’t pay for any of it, so this may have been the best free meal I’ve had in a while.
