Our Valentine’s Day Lunch at the Glass House Tavern

Glass House TavernBeth and I got engaged last year on Valentine’s Day. I wrote a blog post that covers how I popped the question.

We made a reservation for 3, but arrived at 2. The restaurant was pretty empty, so they accommodated us. The hostess was nice enough to ask where we’d like to sit, whether it was at a booth closer to the only other diners upstairs or a table “with a view”.

She said it, not me. Of course, that view is of a city street with a scenic Buffalo Wild Wings across the way with a view of the Barrymore Theater if you tilted your body far enough.

It’s time to talk about the food. We both ordered a Prix Fixe Brunch cooked (or inspired) by Executive Chef Craig Cupani. This brunch included an appetizer (choice of 4), a main course (choice of 5) and a dessert (choice of 3).

Craig CupaniThe appetizer I got was a black bean soup with bacon in it, which was good especially since the beans were pureed. Beth ate the fresh mozzarella & tomato salad with sweet garlic, basil and extra virgin olive oil, which was good except the garlic was too sweet for my taste.

My entree was fresh Atlantic salmon filet with roasted corn & cous cous “risotto”, citrus, chiles and a blood orange vinaigrette, which was quite delicious. Beth got the tavern prime ground beef burger that contained too many grilled Bermuda onions to her liking, a roast tomato that she took off because she doesn’t like tomatoes on her burgers and cheddar cheese she added on a brioche roll.

I saw the dessert and was sold on the spiced pumpkin panna cotta. I was then disappointed to learn that they did not have that panna cotta, but they were offering a Nutella panna cotta with hazelnuts instead. The sacrifices I make.

Glass House NYCBeth got the warm chocolate cake that contained mixed berries and offered a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side. I ate all of my dessert & a sample of Beth’s. Yum on all accounts.

We definitely enjoyed the dining experience and would definitely come back again. Tell me about your experience dining at the Glass House Tavern in the comments below or on Twitter @ChrisKeuling!
