Finding Out Some Bad Facts at Winnie’s First Vet Appointments

Dr Mikolaj Guzek Lexington Animal HospitalLike we did when we adopted Levi, we took Winnie to Lexington Animal Hospital to get checked out. I knew Dr. Orange would give Winnie the great treatment Levi gets.

However, there was a new doctor at the office: Mikolaj Guzek. But it took a while to actually see him thanks to COVID protocols the office was implemented.

My first appointment was canceled since they were going to quarantine. In other words, somebody at the office caught the coronavirus. It’s nice that they did that, though I never got a voicemail indicating my appointment was canceled… so I went to the office without knowing.

But the day of, I had to wait outside for my 11 am appointment. I didn’t get Winnie in to get tested & everything until 12:30 pm, which seems ridiculous to me to have to wait that long with an antsy pup.

I was told that Winnie was all good initially, though she had a BB lodged in one of her legs. It doesn’t cause any pain thankfully, but it’s sad to know that she got shot at one point in her life. That’s my baby girl and I gave her extra hugs when I found out.

I had to drop off a stool sample and upon getting the results, we found out that Winnie was positive for giardia. Giardia is apparently a dangerous parasite that she ingested by drinking water or eating grass that was contaminated by feces.

I got some medication for Winnie to get rid of her giardia. It was a powder I had to put in her food, but it was complicated since Levi tried to steal some of her food until I lured him away. We retested her stool a couple of weeks later and no more giardia!
